Frigstad W90

The new Frigstad W90 is a wind turbine assembly and installation vessel designed for highly efficient and safe operations. The design is based on the hull of the proven Frigstad D90 semi-submersible drilling rig design, of which three units have been built. The unit is equipped with a uniqe WindTower lifting and assembly tower, designed by Frigstad Engineering.

The Frigstad W90 unit can install wind turbines for both bottom-fixed and floating offshore wind farms. The unit is also capable of installing jackets and monopiles.

Key features of the Frigstad W90:

Capacity to store eight complete sets of wind turbines of up to 20MW onboard the vessel
Equipped with a multi-function lifting and assembly tower (WindTower) patented and designed by Frigstad Engineering
Grip-to-grip handling of wind turbine components during the assembly process, thereby enhancing operating window significantly
Water depth capacity of +/- 45m and deeper
The vessel has large operating displacement of 305,000t with very good motion characteristics

Living quarters Total capacity of 200 person with all single person bedrooms with daylight windows. Ample office space and service facilities

MARITIME SYSTEMS

Main Power / Emergency Power Eight (8) Main Generators, each with 6,250 kW output capacity. Total installed power is approx. 50,000 kW, 11kV/3P/60Hz. Two (2) of the main generators are assigned a dual function of main/emergency generators. Includes battery solution (hybrid).

Power Distribution 11kV AC main switchboards

Dynamic Positioning / Mooring System DP4 system with 8 x 5.5MW thrusters. Four (4) triple drum wired mooring winches with 600 meters of 83mm wire and twelve (12) fairleads for connection to preset mooring system (POSMOR-ATA)

MATERIAL HANDLING

Deck Cranes Two (2) 1,600 t lattice boom deck cranes for loading of turbine tower components and other cargo

Cargo Handling and Logistics Two (2) 6t cargo elevators & several forklifts to service storage and machinery areas on main deck and inside the deck box including: engine rooms, workshops, warehouse, galley stores etc.

WIND TURBINE ASSEMBLY SYSTEMS

Onboard Storage for Turbine Components Onboard storage, seafastening and skidding system for total of eight (8) complete wind turbines (up to ~20MW) including tower sections, nacelle and blades.

Hoisting and Assembly Tower with Hoisting Winches Hoisting and assembly tower equipped with one (1) main hoisting winch with lifting capacity of 3,600 t for assembly of complete wind turbine and one (1) auxillary hoisting winch with lifting capacity of 1,500 t for assembly of wind turbine tower sections.

Motion Compensation System Passive vertical heave compensation integrated into skidding system for main winch. Horizontal motion compensation integrated into lower and upper guide structure for turbine tower.

Blade Hoisting and Installation Arm One (1) blade installation arm with lifting capacity of 100 t for hoisting and installation of blades onto nacelle.

Blade Rack and Blade Handling Crane One (1) blade rack for storage of up to 24 wind turbine blades. One (1) blade handling crane with total lifting capacity of 100 t for lifting of blades in/out of blade rack.

OTHER

Helicopter Deck Capacity Designed for Sikorsky S61/S92, M18 and EH 101 helicopters. Max 15.6 tons

Life Saving Equipment Six (6) free-fall lifeboats with total capacity of 420 person (98 kg, 21" seats). Sixteen (16) inflatable life rafts with capacity of 25 persons each. One (1) fast rescue boat.
